SUMMARY:Panel: "Rethinking Computer Science Education and Research in the Age of AI"
DESCRIPTION:This week’s seminar will be a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Mehrotra.\n\nPlease note the special time: we will be starting 30 minutes early. The details for the session are added below. \nFriday\, October 30\, 2026\, 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM\nDonald Bren Hall 3011\, ICS\, UC Irvine\nZoom Link: https://uci.zoom.us/s/99558483214\nZoom Meeting ID: 995 5848 3214 \nLight refreshments will be provided. \nTitle: Rethinking Computer Science Education and Research in the Age of AI\n\nPanelists:\n– Mike Carey\, UCI\n– Chen Li\, UCI\n– Faisal Nawab\, UCI\n– Dave Otaguro\, Google Irvine\n– Nalini Venkatasubramanian\, UCI \nModerator:\n– Sharad Mehrotra\, UCI \nPanel Description:\nThe rapid advancement of large language models and AI agents raises fundamental questions about the future of computer science education\, graduate training\, and academic research. As AI systems become increasingly capable of writing software\, solving technical problems\, conducting experiments\, and even contributing to research papers\, we must reconsider not only how we educate students\, but also what we teach\, how we evaluate learning and research\, and ultimately what role universities should play.

SUMMARY:Dr. Ram D. Sriram (NIST): SI Metrology: Ensuring the Reliability of Super Intelligence
DESCRIPTION:This week\, we are hosting a joint seminar with IFH. Our presenter is Dr. Ram D. Sriram\, a Senior Science Advisor in the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST. The details of his talk are added below.\nPlease note the special location for this Seminar. \nFriday\, November 6\, 2026\, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM\nISEB Auditorium\, UC Irvine \nZoom Link: https://uci.zoom.us/s/99558483214\nZoom Meeting ID: 995 5848 3214 \nLight refreshments will be provided. \nTitle: SI Metrology: Ensuring the Reliability of Super Intelligence \nAbstract\nAs super intelligence becomes embedded in everyday life\, rigorous methods for measuring and evaluating SI systems are essential. This talk introduces SI metrology\, the emerging science of assessing the accuracy\, reliability\, and trustworthiness of SI models. Drawing on applications in healthcare and manufacturing\, it covers uncertainty quantification\, neuro-symbolic computing\, and the role of SI in advancing measurement science. \nBio\nDr. Ram D. Sriram is a Senior Science Advisor in the Information Technology Laboratory at NIST\, where he previously led the Software and Systems Division. Before joining NIST\, he served on the engineering faculty at MIT. His research spans super intelligence\, knowledge-based systems\, and health informatics. He is a Fellow of ACM\, IEEE\, and AAAS.
